Chemical Detection & Analysis

Most CDS Global Inc. (CDS) projects require CDS technical staff; both scientists and technicians to confirm the identification of chemicals discovered on site. The chemicals can be contained in jars, bottles, pails, drums, intermodal bulk containers-IBCs, compressed gas cylinders, tanks and vats.

To achieve this, there are two different technical approaches that are utilized:

  1. Hazardous  Characterization -Haz-Cat: This approach uses various field instruments including; electronic hand-held gas monitors, radiation survey meters, and wet chemistry colorimetric test kits including; pH paper, peroxide test strips, oxidizer test strips, instant metal test strips including chromium and lead. This approach is sometimes aided with the use of mobile field instruments including; portable gas chromatographs i.e. the Frog-5000 by Defiant, portable gas chromatographs combined with a mass spectrometer GC MS i.e. Torion T-9 GC/MS system, portable infrared spectrometer i.e. The Mattson portable IR.
  2. Laboratory Testing Services: This service involves extracting samples discovered on site and then shipping the labelled samples to a traditional brick and mortar laboratory where technical lab staff perform analysis of samples on bench top analytical instruments. These samples are extracted, prepared and shipped according to the chain of custody rules of the designated laboratory and designated site-specific Environmental Site Health & Safety Plan (EHSP).
